Magnificent Magnavox / Help me identify...
« on: March 10, 2019, 08:52:53 PM »
I was hoping you guys could help me find some info on this 3 in 1 unit I picked up not too long ago.

I found info on the amp no problem, as I think It was used in several Magnavox models of the era, but I can't seem to find schematics on the TV. Was the TV manufactured by another company that Magnavox used in their units?

The model number looks to be 1MV188 L

All 3 features work, but I currently have it all apart to re-cap.

Thanks in advance!

Motorola / Re-Purposed Motorola Record Changer
« on: November 29, 2016, 10:29:47 PM »
Hello all,

I came across a good deal on this Motorola record changer that had been pulled (sadly) from its console. I've always loved these changers and the way they look. I have a complete Motorola 3 channel record console and the changer is identical. Works like a champ, so I figured I'd snag this one and start a project of building a plinth for it to make it a stand-alone record changer.

If someone could straighten me out on a few things...

How would I re-wire the power to this? I see  red/black/white and grey cords leading to various places. Would it be as simple as a wire going to the motor and another going to the on/off relay switch? Is the voltage gonna be too much coming straight from a wall outlet?

Thanks in advance and let me know if any other photos would be helpful.

Chat / Refinishing your record cabinet...
« on: June 25, 2016, 01:35:32 PM »
Hey everyone.

I am in need of some advice/ assistance. Have any of you tried tacking a project like this? It's a record console (RCA Victor Model PM-19) with the external speaker, that is in rough cosmetic shape. The cabinet needs refinishing but is made up of wood veneer that is chipping in several places. It looks like someone stuck this in a blender.

I'd like to bring it back to life. The electronic portion is in great shape, it just looks atrocious.

What do you all suggest, other than stripping it all off and painting it (I really don't want to do that...)
I wonder how cheap the wood underneath the veneer would look if I stained it?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Console Tales / Magnavox Concert Grand accidental find...
« on: October 27, 2015, 02:48:19 PM »
Hello, I am new to this site and these forums. The way I stumbled across it actually was looking up information on what I believe to be a Magnavox Concert Grand I just purchased from a local StVincent De Paul. I know a thing or two about vintage Hi-Fi, but mostly Motorola and RCA Victor… never owned a Magnavox. (I'm 24, so my knowledge is infinitesimal compared to some of you gents on here, I'm sure).

This console, which I have paid for but have yet to pick up from the store, comes with a matching external speaker cabined, consisting of 2 drivers and 2 horns (from what I could tell).

I was actually looking for a halloween costume when I came across it. Not needing another piece of stereo gear, I passed it up, but after I got home, I had a hunch it was something more than just another piece of stereo gear (I mean, the thing had dozens of tubes and HORNS!), and after reading all of the threads that exist on here about the Concert Grands, I realized I had made a mistake… Luckily when I arrived at the store this morning as the doors opened, it was still available. I paid $100 and told them I would be by after work to haul it off. I did test it, it turns on, lights up and plays FM just fine. I can tell the TT is going to need a little attention, which doesn't bother me. I can work on mechanisms all day… it's the guts of the amps that I hope don't need too much tinkering with. But now I know you all exist, I know the first place to come with any questions. If any of you are interested, I will upload some photos later this evening of how she looks.

Regards, Caleb
