Not heard of using shellac for that.  Might be a good time to Google getting rid of smoke odor on wood....

Sounds like it's been in a home of heavy smokers.  I had one like that, and I put one of those liquid plug-ins right behind the cabinet, put in new refills once a month, and three months later the cabinet smelled a lot better.  The problem is that smoke permeates the wood and gets in the grill cloth, and even the speakers and elsewhere.  It takes a long time to totally get rid of the smell.

Greg, never use Windex or any other harsh cleaner on a glass tuner dial on the side where the lettering is.  The same holds true for lettering on record changers, like speed numbers, etc.  I learned the hard way on this.  I use plain water on tuner dials...nothing else...

I want one because I got to meet Roy and Dale in the 1970s... wonderful people... and I didn't know until recently there was a 1949 RCA Roy Rogers model record player.  Really cool.

So many of these mats look like this when you find them.

Reproduction platter mats for the early RCA RP-168 changer became available last month.  They look exactly like the originals, and well worth the price if you have one of these changers with a bad mat.

They called this lady a "consummate buyer".  Everything was clean and organized.  Most of the stuff was in plastic totes.  Probably $5000 worth of totes at the sale stuffed with stuff.  The records I bought were in alphanumerical order, were spotless, both jacket and disc and the envelopes were turned so the record would not fall out.  Some of the nicest records I ever got at an auction.  Nothing was dirty, nasty or just piled everywhere.  Apparently, the lady would go to the Dollar Store or Walmart on her payday and buy whatever was on sale.  She had 500 rolls of paper towels and that many rolls of toilet paper.  Cases of dish soap, hand soap and beauty products.  Cases of ketchup and kitchen supplies.  There were over 10,000 cans of cat food, and she did not own a cat.

Chris, I admit to being a hoarder.  It may be cool to have old radios, phonos, tape decks, amps and all that stuff.  But, in my case, it's probably hoarding.   ;)

I knew of this lady, but did not know her well.  She worked at out bank.  I do not intend my comments to shed a negative light on her at all.  She was a nice lady.  She lived her life like she thought best.  All her stuff was cleaner and more organized than mine is certainly.  She just had LOTS of it.

My dad was bad about hoarding paper towels and toilet paper too.  He didn't keep 500 rolls on hand, but I'd bet he had 100 rolls of each at any given time.  He had a closet full of the stuff....

What I didn't realize is that RCA produced two different EY-3's.  The bakelite model is 45-EY-3, and it only has a volume control.  The 6-EY-3 is in a vinyl-covered wooden case and it has thumbwheel knobs inside the record playing compartment, one for volume, the other for tone.

My mistake Bill.  I thought you had a 45-EY-3..........

Bill, perhaps I'm confused as I'm not for sure what you have.  Can you post a picture.
