Are we referring to the RCA 3 channel, or the Motorola 3 channel?   ::) ::) ;) ;) :)

Greg!  It makes sense with your comment, that as components ran out in 1962, that they would start using what was on the shelf.  My Symphony was run three, and is a 5 knobber, 6 tube tuner, with 12" woofers, and horns for tweeters.  Being run three, I'm sure it was at the end of production for the 1962 year.

This is the only forum I belong too, and it will probably remain that way.  I'm happy here.  :) :)

My Symphony is model ST-657A. Run number 3.  It has 12" woofers, horns, 9300 series amp, two tube FM multiplex.  It's a five knobber, with a six tube tuner, making it a series 100 tuner.  I think in 1962 you got what every was handy as the console moved down the assembly line. Nothing makes sense.

Dave,

I have a 1ST-657.  It looks just like yours under the hood, and the components inside.  It's on the list for a rebuild.  Hopefully sooner than later.

Here's a couple of things sitting on my shelves.  The GE radio I just picked up about two weeks ago from a guy with a booth of nothing but radios in an antique mall in Grand Rapids.  There is always a nice selection to pick from, and some cool stuff.  This one he had marked down to ten bucks.  He always claims that he has gone through them.  I plugged it in, and it took right off.  It plays great, and sounds great.  For ten bucks, you can't go wrong.

The microwave looking thing is a Seeburg 1000 background music system.  They played elevator type music in stores and such.  Cool piece, and when I found this years ago there was a years supply of record that came with it.  The records look similar to a 45, in that they have the big hole.  the records are larger, and play really slow.  The machine plays both sides of the record without turning the record over. There is a cartridge on both sides of the tone arm.

Here's a link to the guys display.  As you can see this is an old photo.  My radio is still in the photo.

I love things that are FREE!   Nice find, and like Greg said, add speakers and stir.  You might be surprised.   :)

Thanks Greg!

I wonder if VM designed that exclusively for GE, or did GE design the tone arm for VM?

Magnificent Magnavox / Re: What needle to I need to look for?
« on: May 11, 2019, 03:38:30 PM »
The needle will depend on the cartridge.  You will need to determine which cartridge you have before you can order a needle.  As Greg said, in all likely hood, it's a EV-26.  But you really need to verify that.

There where three wood finishes.  Cherry, light walnut, and dark walnut.  Your photo, at least to me, looks like it might be the Sable Walnut.  The model number on the back will tell you for sure.

It's a nice looking unit. Do a complete overhaul before you use it.  Be sure to install a fuse, and enjoy the fruits of your labor when done.

I have always liked the looks of that series of Heathkit amps.  To me, they look mean and powerful.
