Other Solid State Console Brands / Sylvania
« on: November 20, 2018, 12:07:30 AM »
So, I got a Sylvania console for parts and I can't figure out how to get the pilot light jewel out. Anyone have a Sylvania and know how this thing is secured in there?

Wanted / Power Light Jewel
« on: November 01, 2018, 09:32:59 PM »
My Sylvania console is missing the little plastic jewel that the power on light shines through on the front. I'm assuming that this is unobtanium, but thought that I would put it out there.

Sale or Trade / TOTL Zenith
« on: October 24, 2018, 12:04:22 PM »
Any interest here in a 1971 Zenith B966 TOTL console?  This is the model with the touch buttons. It has a Zenith-branded Garrard 3500 turntable and the Zenith cassette deck. All components are in working condition.  The electrolytics were replaced by our very own SeniorSteve.  I was fixing this up to be my keeper console when I got lucky and acquired a 1968 Zenith YT960.  Thought I would check here before I put it on CL. The inside photo is before it was cleaned up...sorry!

Does anyone have a copy of SAMS 989-8?

Zenith Solid State Discussion / Zenith YT960

So, I'm looking over my latest acquisition and realized there are no tape inputs on the back of the cabinet. The reel to reel cables appear to be hard wired to the tuner chassis. Did these just not have the option to add additional tape input to them?

Record Changer Repair and Restoration / Zenith Belt Drive
« on: October 12, 2018, 11:48:00 AM »
I recently acquired a 1968 Zenith YT960 console. The tuner, record changer and reel to reel all need servicing. When trying to remove the platter from the turntable, the 45RPM adapter is not closing all the way. It seems to me that the top of the center spindle may be bent. I understand that these are made of unobtanium. I have decided to leave it alone until I get some guidance. Should I try to bend it back, or will it likely break? I will add a picture after I get home from work.

Zenith Solid State Discussion / Zenith Console Specs?
« on: September 06, 2018, 12:33:23 PM »
I wish there were as many Zenith brochures available as there are Magnavox!  I am looking at a 1967 Zenith X950 console.  I would like to know the specs before I make the drive out to look at it as it isn't close.  Any ideas?

Other Solid State Console Brands / Sylvania?

Are the mid 60's Sylvania consoles any good?  I might go pick one up, but it's a drive and if they are not good I might not bother.

This is for sale near me and I might be interested but I can't find it in any of the catalogs posted here. Any guesses?

Zenith Solid State Discussion / Different problem
« on: July 31, 2018, 09:24:52 PM »
So, when I first got the console, touching the tape button would select tape and the light would come on. Recently, I'm unable to select tape on the tuner... Nothing happens and the light doesn't come on. The tape deck runs when a cassette is inserted and the level meters are moving. I assume it's a problem with the tuner? This is on my Zenith B966 console. I also found out that AM doesn't work

Other Solid State Console Brands / GE Console?
« on: July 11, 2018, 07:37:30 AM »
I have a line on what I believe to be a 1967 GE C443 console.  Cabinet looks nice and it has a reel-to-reel tape in it.  Does anyone know anything about these?  Information seems to be pretty scarce and if they are not that good, I won't bother.

Record Changer Repair and Restoration / Record Changer Issue
« on: July 03, 2018, 04:48:27 PM »
The record Changer on my Zenith B966 will lift the tone arm and return to the rest and turn off just fine, but when I put an album on the spindle and try to let the turntable play it automatically, the record drops and the tone arm goes all the way to the middle, then backs up a bit and drops. Using the 45 adapter, the tone arm lands in the correct position on a 45. Suggestions?

Zenith Solid State Discussion / Up and running!
« on: June 26, 2018, 03:07:32 PM »
Ok, I couldn't stand it anymore. I went and got the Zenith B966 console from my storage unit and put it in the garage to clean it up and work on it. After getting some help here on the light bulbs she is playing! I couldn't figure out the lights for the touch controls, but at least they are working. The radio and turntable are working great. I don't have any cassettes to try the tape deck, but I'm not really interested in it.

Zenith Solid State Discussion / Bulbs?
« on: June 26, 2018, 09:59:11 AM »
I have several bulbs burned out in my Zenith B966 console. So far I have been able to get out the bulbs for the timer and they have GE 204 one one and GE 1847 on the others. I haven't been able to locate these yet. The Sam's photofact doesn't show the bulbs. Does anyone love what bulbs are in the touch controls and if there is another number for the 1847 or 204?

Astrosonic and Other SS Magnavox's / Question For the Experts Here...
« on: June 01, 2018, 11:23:18 AM »
I am new to the vintage hi-fi console game. I acquired a 1971 Zenith B966 that is very nice, but also have access to a 1969 Magnavox Aegean Classic with reel-to-reel. Which of these two is the better unit, or are they pretty much equals?
