1942 Zenith 22H698 added to the Home Fleet today
« on: June 13, 2015, 04:42:09 PM »
My buddy Joe and I did a trade today and I got a nice original and completely recapped 22H698. This was Zeniths last great pre-war console and only about 800 of these were sold in the 698 or 699 cabinets. Sales price was $695 retail. He got a nice playing Scott 16 Acousticraft in exchange.

The console has 22 tubes including 6-6A3 outputs and 2 5Z3 recifiers on a separate amp and the rest on a shutter dial main chassis. Speakers are 2-12" and 1-6" tweeter

My new set has the original 78 rpm record play with so-far unbroken pot metal and the RP plays nice too. The radio plays great and has that thumper timbre you have to hear and feel to understand. My buddy actually has another one of these just as nice and also 2 set of guts parts for the 22H also.

It took us an hour to piece it all together and its not as big as a Scott Philly Chippendale grande or 800B but still big and heavy. Gonna be mu new daily driver for a while as I test drive and break it in right.

Super nice set and top of the line for Zenith in 1942!  Quite a find. Looks great!  I wish I could see and hear one of those in person.

Not much you can do with the old FM band. But I would definitely have my AM transmitter putting out some good music to play on that radio!  I'm sure the fidelity would be awesome!!!
