RCA Victor 1961 Console
« on: October 21, 2015, 01:59:37 PM »
Its seems rare to find tubed RCA consoles. This one has a tuner with series-wired tube heaters and a 6E5 tuning eye.
The amplifier is a bit better with a transformer. I picked it up 2 days ago and have not opened it up. Im sure it needs caps and at least some resistors.

I posted this before getting complete pictures, especially the speakers and chassis, but here is some.
Some restoration of finish is needed along with some surgery on the grill cloth.
That lighter colored phoho-amp-tuner board is pretty strange looking.
This is a rather compact set and may be easy to re-sell due to style and finish.

I am fairly certain this does NOT have a MPX decoder. Looking at the tuner chassis, I can't decide if this was a budget set or more mid-priced.
There are three 6BQ5s, left, right and center bass output. I do not have a schematic but it appears that each of the 6CG7 tubes function as a pre-amp and driver.

Looks like a lower end model to me but I think you are correct that with the style and size it should be an easy one to flip.

Ill upload some more pictures in a few days. There is five speakers in this set.
?
There are four 6CG7s on the Amp chassis. How could six triodes be employed on such a simple 3-channel single-ended system?

Yep, it is a three channel single ended console.  There is one 6BQ5 output tube for each channel.  The 6CG7s are preamp tubes.

It looks like your cloth was stained like my Hoffman console I bought last summer that is similar in color.  I ended up replacing the cloth with some amp cloth from AES. I believe it was the Fender Wheat style cloth. It goes really well with the color of the wood.

I figured that stain could be bleached out like I did successfully on a Grundig radio but that rip is not worth messing with if I can get a suitable replacement. Im hoping AES has a piece that large
