I'm sure those are not tube friendly speakers. All aside its better than most the contraptions I've seen.

Well, it's obvious the guy wants everyone to see his speakers and his amplifier.

Well, It WAS a 58 stereorama...  This is NOT my style, and as the ad said "you'll never find one quite like this again..." I sure hope not!

however i am willing to look at it like this...

- It looks like he had a plan, and executed it fairly well. Like a giant BoomBox, It's LOUD, over the top, and IN 'yO FacE !!!
- Build looks decent, it doesn't look all cobbed together and some of the details are a nice touch, like the chicken
head knobs, and being able to see the amp. For example, when my son's friends come over they are amazed by the tubeglow...
- It is a working console that was saved from the dump. It still has the amp175 that model came with.
- This originally had the photofinish, and when it starts coming off it's not something easily fixed. What do you do? It's not
worth paying someone for a resto on a lower end console... so paint it. Hate the colors, but the paintjob looks decent.
- it is getting noticed, and if it helps to get a younger demographic interested in consoles then it could be a positive thing.

ok, I got my flamesuit on... :)

I understand what you're saying about photo finishes.  Not much can be done to them other than to just paint over them.

That being said, this could have been absolutely beautiful had he removed all the components in the cabinet, and painted everything in black lacquer.  That combination of blue and hot pink is just hideous looking.

And, it is obvious this was done by a young guy trying to impress his buddies.  No one my age would do such a thing to a console.  However, he's not considering what small kids might do to his console... like punch holes in the speakers with their fingers....  Plus, it could be a shock hazard to young kids for an amplifier to be out in full view at the bottom front of the cabinet like that........

Sad... but not surprising.  It was clear from the start that the owner was simply interested in making as much money as possible and did not really care one bit about the history or rarity of the console.

I had inquired at one point long ago. He wanted 1500 before.

Heck I got enough parts to restore it.

Hideous in Houston!  A finely "refinished" vintage working radio/record player.  :'(   Must have been a lot of artistic thought and skill involved in this project.  Record player doesn't work and they are still asking $350.

They think they can get big bucks for that repainted "shabby chic" stuff.  I am seeing more and more of it in flea markets and antique malls.  I wouldn't have a piece of it, even an end table or cabinet, in my house.

Everything is pristine about that console cabinet!  The electronics could not have been in too bad a shape, just not working for the age of the electrolytic's, etc.  What a shame.  :'(
