Bozo Record Player
« on: April 11, 2016, 06:12:21 PM »
Once a kid, always a kid, I guess.  I grew up watching Bozo on TV after school, so it was quite natural that I'd want a Bozo record player!  Two previously were on eBay, but at too high a price, and I managed to win this one last weekend for only $36 with free shipping.  I couldn't pass it up for that.  It is made by Steelman Phono & Radio Company of Mt. Vernon, New York.  It's a 78rpm only player, and I plan to restore the amp, service the motor, add a new idler and new cartridge.  It has a two tube amp, with 35Z5 rectifier and 50L6 output tube.  Now I'll have to get some Bozo records to play on it!

Another one that was on eBay showed the schematic and the inside of the player.

I love that kind of stuff. I'm working on a deal for a Lone Ranger record player. Most of the kid stuff I find around here is really beat up and overpriced.

Bozo arrived today, and his face looks better than I anticipated.  These pictures were made before I cleaned the cabinet.  The flocked platter is decent, and it has a good bottom cover with 4 good feet.

BOZO THE CLOWN RECORD PLAYER IS FINISHED.  Tonight I installed the newly painted tonearm and rest, added a new Alliance idler, and installed an 89T 78rpm cartridge.  Bozo had significant hair loss (maybe he's balding like me...lol), so I added a red plastic sheet behind his face to make him look better.  The little player actually sounds quite good with the 1.3 volt cartridge.  Restoring this kiddie Bozo player has been lotsa fun.

Getting another Bozo picture book/78rpm record set, Bozo and the Birds, and also bought a cute little Bozo doll to complete the display.

Bozo himself showed up today, and he wanted to listen to his circus records!

Thanks.  I wanted to tell a story with the display.  Bozo is the world's most famous clown, entertaining kids from the 60s well up into the 90s.  He still may show up in circus tents today.

The Bozo plush doll stands up just fine all by himself.  I guess it helps that he has really big shoes....  lol
