Five Magnavox's at one estate sale
« on: July 25, 2016, 08:52:46 AM »
They must of had one in every room.To new for most people but they were all perfect. The Friday/Saturday price was  $800 each. The Sunday price was $350 each. None of them sold. They must have looked on Ebay and found the most expensive one they could find to price them.

Look like some high-end Astros, and that's a very cool woodgrain remote!

That super-cool remote is for the "Star System" which is the second TV, not the first one.

The first TV is a 1975 model with the very reliable modular "vertical" chassis and may have an 8-track like all five consoles appear to.

Those TV's are some of Magnavox's best offerings in 1975-76.

Most folks nowadays want a small record player, not some 8 foot long coffin console.  These wouldn't have sold if they'd been priced at $100.

Your right. I see console's like those priced at $100 that won't sell for month's. If they would have been $50 each I would have bought them all.I also saw a store tube tester made by Mercury for $100 at another estate sale. The white machine next to it was an old hospital ultrasound machine. It was 60% off everything except furniture and they said the tube tester was furniture so I didn't buy it because  he was trying to rip me off.

Just in terms of style & design, those consoles all appear to come from the hideous decade.  All at the far end of the ugly scale.  Hard to move a product that's as unattractive as those.

Chris, isn't that the truth?  I wouldn't have a one of them in my house.

I like them in a weird way and would also take all of them for $50 each.

If you were to spend an afternoon on Craigslist, and were willing to pay $50 cash money for one of those things, you could accumulate a semi load....... ;)

Say you had two of the exact same 70's console's like these. One was all original and in working condition. The other you gutted it, chalk painted it and installed some shelves or something. Which one do you think would sell? I hate to say it but I think I could sell the painted and  gutted one easier and for more money.

Yes you could..............The chalk painted stuff is IN here in Michigan as well and no one except us weird O's wants the coffin stereos.  I see them listed on Craig's list all the time and they are there day after day after day.  Of course the people selling have no clue on price and want an arm and leg.

Sad truth but those last-of-the consoles are hard to interest someone in if they do not appreciate the fine electronics that went INTO them.

I save the receiver chassis, record changer and record storage bin when I can.
Someday, a gutted and "less Mediterranean or EA" cabinet will show up to give the chassis and changer a home. :D
