Motorola with Jensen speakers
« on: October 10, 2016, 09:42:12 AM »
Very dirty and was at a yard sale for $20. Why does my new Motorola have Jensen speakers?

Hey, that's a handsome, dignified box.  Nice V-M changer too.  Jensen made lots of speakers--used in late E.H. Scott consoles and V-M too.  I have a 1956 V-M model 566 with the same changer and Jensen speakers (12" woofer, small closed-back tweeter).

How about a photo of the amplifier?  I'm always curious about the electronics used in these devices.

Motorola used gold painted jensen speakers quite often. Guess this was before they started stamping 'golden voice' with gold painted baskets.

I had no idea the Jensen brand went back that far. It was good to find something that wasn't Early American or Colonial styling. I've been striking out down here lately. I'll post some more of my recent finds soon.

Here's a link to Jensen's history: https://www.jensentone.com/history_jensen.  Peter Jensen was one of the guys who produced the first Magnavox loudspeaker in 1915, according to the site.  Later he began his own company.

By the way, that looks like a serious amplifier with the P-P 6V6s and a bunch of preamp/phase inverter tubes.  Healthy looking output transformer, too.

Excellent iron on that amplifier, and Jensen has a looooooong history. Too bad Magnavox never used that level of iron on a push pull amp.

Very nice pick up for $20 !!
Moto's of this era have Jensen "Special Designs" in them commonly.
See Sams  408-13 for the amp, which was used
in many mono 1950's Moto's.

I had a large table-top with same changer/controls/escutcheon/amp.
The sound in these is to quote Bernie:  "Yuuuuuge" !

Congrats,
HFF

That's a great set there! That is a bullet-proof amp too. Check and see what cartridge is on that changer.
It should be a stereo cart so you don't excessively wear stereo records.
