E-V cartridge question
« on: December 07, 2016, 09:52:59 AM »
Magnavox micromatics and a few V-M record changers that I have use Electro Voice 150, 158 and 186 carts. While you cannot get an exact replacement due to shelf stock failures, all mine have good output.

The replacement Pfanstiehl stylus is a 365, so I keep a few around. The EV 186 cartridge has a tiny plastic screw on the bottom of the cart, off to the side of the stylus bridge. It looks like an adjustment because it is not fully seated. Does anyone know what its function is? ???

Perhaps tracking weight? I'll let more informed people chime in here.

Here are pictures. Adjusting it in an out a few turns seems to do nothing though.

It's plastic--could it be a stylus guard, to limit how far the stylus retreats upward if somebody presses it down too hard?  The screw would contact the record surface and prevent further movement.  Because it's plastic, it wouldn't harm the disc.
