I have a silly question....
« on: January 21, 2017, 06:10:06 PM »
Pardon me if this sound really silly, but....

How do I change the needle on a Euphonics E-1 cartridge?  Either this one is stuck and is being crabby about moving, or I'm doing it wrong.   :-\

I checked the VM website, with no help.
If it ain't broke, call me.  I can break it....

Information on how to change the needle in a Euphonics cartridge is not easy to come by.  I found a thread on AK that sort of explains it, but not very well.  Methinks this cartridge is toast.  According to what I have read, and to the best of my understanding, when a cartridge loses its little rubber doohicky like mine has, it is bad.  I believe a replacement of some kind is available at VM so I will just replace this one and move on.

That is actually a good question. I restored a Motorola stereophonic console SK70, and ended up ordering an Astatic 710 IIRC from V-M, rather than try replacing the stylus.
The player was working nicely but I sold it. I have two others I may need to do this for. Good thing these are still available. :D

There's a flood of these cheap Asian "turntables" (what I would call portable record players or tabletop record players).  Somebody bought the "Crosley" name and slaps it on them. I wonder what they are using for cartridges?  I assume they're ceramic devices, but have no idea about quality --how well they work.

They use a knockoff of the Chuo Denshi CZ-800.  The genuine ones aren't bad cartridges, but the cheap knockoffs are pretty bad, and are available all over Ebay for as little as $2.

OK, Ken, tell me how you do that little quote thing, where you quote the portion of a post that you're replying to.  It makes for easier reading.

At the top right corner of each post you should see a handy quote button.  Simply click it and respond below the quote.

Yeah, but how do you make the blue box appear around the quote?

(I'm glad you asked, Chris.  I was gonna ask, but...... ;) )

Yeah--I did it and didn't get the box.  Maybe you have to fly first class?

After you click the quote button, don't delete anything, just reply below the end- quote.

OK, trying again to see what happens.  I'm curious how much gets quoted.  Usually when replying to things, I try to edit the original material down to the part I'm replying to.

Let's see if I can do it right.  I'm typically the last one to get it right.... :-[
