Gotta Question regarding the Maggie 64-03-00 Tuner/Preamp.
« on: April 17, 2017, 11:51:54 AM »
Hello Everyone,

Do all the tubes in this tuner need to be installed in order to test for sound through the Aux inputs? I've got the 6eu7's in it but still getting no sound. One other question shouldn't the 3 dial lamps work also without the tubes?

Thanks,

Generally, the only tubes that you must have for sound via "aux" are audio amplification tubes--not the RF, IF, and detector devices for the radio.  And if the dial lamps are good, they should light up.  Generally they are driven by the power transformer's 6.3 V tap that powers tube filaments.  If you have good bulbs and they are not lighting, are the tube filaments (heaters) lighting? If not, there's a problem--a burned out 6.3 V winding, or a wiring issue.  If the power transformer has no 6.3 V output but still has high voltage output, you could buy a new filament transformer of sufficient current capacity for the tubes that it supplies.  Poke around some with a voltmeter but be very careful of the high voltage (B+) in the chassis.
