Interesting RCA
« on: May 07, 2017, 10:53:37 PM »
I just saw a cool RCA.  I'm guessing it's from '57-'62, somewhere in that range. Has anyone seen this model before? (See pic)

That looks like the early-mid 1960s. It might even be solid state.

Ya, it had knobs just like my '62 rca.  But it didn't say solid state on it, and I've never seen a s.s. console that didn't say it somewhere, at least up to the 70s. So I'm thinking it's tubes. They're asking $195, but I think they will come down. It's quite clean.

I picked one of those up last December.  It's from 1963.  The stereo is all tube but does include a FM stereo decoder and push pull 6BQ5's for output.  Model is 3VF446 (at least that's what mine was).  After a re-cap and cleanup, it's a daily driver for me.  Unfortunately I'm not impressed with the changer.  I couldn't pass mine up for $25.00.

Ahh, I'm glad you could identify it. Does the amp provide good output.  I have '62 RCA that has three channels.  Is this one two or three?

The longer coffin style consoles by RCA were always 2 channels.

This one is a two channel stereo.  It probably has around 10-15 watts per channel.  VERY nice sounding though.  I used some pipe organ music to test, and it came through with flying colors - especially after the new woofers and sealing the speaker enclosures.  It doesn't get extremely loud, but I gave that up long time ago.  I've had several neighbors over and they all have commented on how nice it sounds.
