Duke Ellington: Fargo Live
« on: September 09, 2017, 10:26:38 PM »
I know most of you prefer your music served on platters, and I found an audio recording version of a CD that is very enjoyable If you like Ellington's Blanton/Webster band.  It is a recording made of a one night stand in Fargo, North Dakota that contains a broadcast performance during the dance date.  The recording was made by a fan on a record cutter at the stage area.  The announcer and some Ivie Anderson vocals come off a bit weak, but the performances are as clear as being there, and include some old pieces and more current numbers  If you like this period in his bands' evolution, this album is a must have.  The CD has more content but these numbers are an excellent representation.
