Fabulous Voice of Music "Fidelis" 560-A
« on: November 01, 2014, 03:33:35 PM »
Here's a consolette I've owned.  It's a Voice of Music Fidelis model 560-A.  Terrific 1950s styling that will blow you away.  And, it has a lighted lucite rod you can push to automatically change records without having to push the usual reject switch on the changer.  I added a pair of hairpin legs I found on eBay.  Got a fabulous reproduction of the owner's manual from Gary Stork at VM Enthusiasts.

i usually don't like small record players but that is nice with the lift up top. i don't really like the ones with swing out speakers.

This VM sounded real good.  It had three speakers and a four tube amp as I recall.  I believe I installed an Astatic 89T cartridge in it.

One nice thing about it was the illuminated lucite rod between the tone and volume controls.  You could push it in, and it would reject and play the next record without having to touch the reject switch on the changer itself.

I acquired a Mahogany version of the 560a. I like your hairpin legs that you've added. How tall are they? I'm thinking about doing the same to mine.

I can't remember for sure, but they were likely about 16-18 inches tall.

Thanks for the info. I just pulled the trigger on a set of tapered Waddell wood legs. I'll stain to match and post pics when I'm finished.

I also ordered some items from Gary @ Voice of Music. Needed the cover panel on the interior covering the amp, and the owners manual and service manuals. Super service!

My Scoutmaster had the mahogany version, and my parents' neighbors had the blonde one.  Now I've got a 566 from the same era--basically the same device in a bigger box, and with 6BQ5s instead of 6V6s.  Mine is mahogany.

I have a Mahogany, Walnut and Blonde here just sitting under a table waiting for someone to come love them someday.

Did you know they made this set in all BLACK as well....very very cool looking.  Saw one at an Antique Mall in Wisconsin and thought someone painted it at first.  To my surprise it was REAL!  I was stunned and blown away.  It was $50 and beat to sh!t though so I passed.  They pop up once in a while, kinda like the Black Mink RCAs which I think are probably the coolest.
