So that's 4 6V6s in push-pull parallel, like a Magnavox?  Except that Fisher had the good sense to go with a magnetic phono cartridge....

A friend of mine has a similar one--haven't seen it in a coupe years--his is mahogany.  I should check it out again (it came with his house).

Congrats on this find!

Truly elegant.....the dial, the dark coffee colored Garrard, the speaker balance controls on the front panel, the multi colored lamps for radio-phono functions, the lamp for the phono compartment, and those shiny black transformers in that hefty Magnavox-like chassis.
Using PP-parallel 6V6s and maybe with 2 5Y3s gives a chassis a certain uniform look that appeals to me, and so does an all black metal tube chassis that a lot of older RCA's had, even the 6F6 output and 5W4 rectifier would be metal---but don't get curious and touch 'em, cuz boy, did they get extra hot no matter how much they looked just warm like the other black tubes.

Contemporary version is stunning ! (I have an E-490A(Maple, Early American) and while I admire it, that black is stunning).   Congratulations!

PhilBr,

Is your amp have tubes and transistors?

Bill

Hi Bill - I had a heck of a time logging into vintagehifi.net. I gave up and have been lurking now and then. My apologies for the late, late reply. The amp is transistors and the tuner is  tubes...http://fisherconsoles.com/custom%20electra%20VIII.html for reference.   I have a lot of photos somewhere. We are in the process of moving and my projects are on hold...but it needs recapping.

Great looking Fisher, appears a bit more loaded than later custom electras. I have two myself, a CE 7 last all-tube 1964, and an E492, full SS.

The Brilliance and Presence adjustments are very interesting to see in the age of mono, but do not mount on the chassis obviously. What are these connected to? ???

They're an adjustable crossover for the speakers.

Increase "brilliance" in a carpeted room and "presence" (midrange) in a hard surface area.
