Magnavox used tempered Masonite.  You can buy Masonite in sheets at home improvement stores, like Lowes or Home Depot.  Menards has the best price around here on Masonite.  It can be cut, drilled and the edges sanded for a nice look and fit.  You can even put a coat of shellac on it to keep it looking fresh.

Some small radios had thinner pasteboard backs.  That stuff can be bought at a hobby shop, like Hobby Lobby, and can be cut and fit to make a new back.

I made a new back for my Concert Grand out of 1/4" lauan, the stuff that is used for floor underlayment and for skins on hollow core interior doors.  I got the kind that is good on both sides and finished both sides.  This looks really nice when you get it done.
I'm great at multi-tasking.  I can listen, ignore, and forget all at the same time.
