Can you be Sure If It's Westinghouse?
« on: January 05, 2019, 04:06:13 PM »
May be looking at a Westinghouse console, allegedly a tube model with AM/FM + record player. No other info at this point.  I haven't seen many Westinghouse, or any in person for that matter, in quite a few years of looking at this stuff. They do seem to be well respected in the vintage appliance circles that I also hang out in...any comments or opinions in general?

Well this was a real dead end... went to find an early '50s mono tank of a mahogany Westinghouse AM-FM phono console in only so-so condition. Being strictly a stereo guy it went un-bought, even though the guy would have taken basically anything for it, so if anyone wants such a thing for 15 bucks or so located in Binghamton NY PM me!  The search continues for a compact console for the "office" (a 3rd 9' x 10' BR)... a 900 sq ft house can be pretty restricting sometimes.

It wasn't a total waste though, I did bring home a mint '70 Akai tape deck, so now we can listen to the tape recorded on our wedding day almost 48 years ago, for the first time since 1971!

The most interesting tube-model Westy I have "seen" is this one from a long-gone CL ad. They wanted more than $300 IIRC.

A 1961 model, when AM and FM were simulcasting to approximate a stereo broadcast. Just before multiplex adapters the next year, but with a selector provision for it.

That's a nice one!
I'll only look at stereo units, I do appreciate the older monos but too little time/space/money to get them all any more, I've learned my lesson!
