VM 1200 series changer
« on: May 11, 2019, 01:15:15 PM »
I have never seen a tone arm like this on a VM changer.  Bill and I were talking about this one day last winter, and I promised him pictures.  Better late than never.   ::) ;) :)

The cartridge is on some kind of a pivoting contraption.  Looks to me like it might drag the record.  "Tonal 1" tone arm.  This changer is in an old GE console I have saved for its guts.  I believe it has a GE C-100 cartridge.
I don't need Google.  My wife says she knows everything.

Thanks Greg!

I wonder if VM designed that exclusively for GE, or did GE design the tone arm for VM?

I might ought to get the model number off the bottom of the chassis and see what Gary has to say about it.  I have no idea.

With the record size sensor button, it looks like a V-M 1297
series changer mechanism.

GE made or had made their own cartridges, and I believe
this tonearm setup for the Tonal-1.

Zenith had a setup with a hinged bracket for
their Microtouch 2 g "floating cartridges".
IIRC, there is a felt pad on the carts used to track on records.

Let us know what Gary says !

The Tonal 1 tone arm is a GE contraption connected to a 1200 series VM changer.  It has a perfectly good GE C-100 cartridge.  I believe if I ever use this changer, I'll see if I can change the tone arm.  I'm not impressed with that floating cartridge setup at all.
