Pilot 6B500LM, $80, Springfield Il.
« on: July 07, 2019, 08:25:08 PM »
I don't really like the looks of it but I bet it has a nice amp in it judging from the size of those OPTs.  Looks like it might have 6BQ5s in it.

That looks interesting from this Fisher-owner's perspective, just like my 1964 Custom Electra, which also has a PP6BQ5 amp, Garrard record changer, though mine has a magnetic cartridge. This looks like a flip-over ceramic.

All the really interesting 1960s consoles like this seem to be housed in Provincial furniture :-\

That console is an absolute steal for $80.
It has an AA-32 6bq5 amp and 590 Pilot tuner-preamp, both of which are very sought after audiophile components. The amp alone often brings in the $500 range or more. I've had 2 of them and they are truly excellent. Read this:

I'd be all over that like a cheap suit on a shoe salesman!

I would call that Italian Provincial  and it's not half bad looking IMO!  If it was in my neck of the woods it would already be loaded up in the back of my stationwagon!

I'd almost bet that it's already gone and the listing hasn't been removed.  If I were in the area I'd have to make contact just to make sure.

I see this is still up and dated June 2nd. Only 60 miles from me, but I picked up 2 in July. This would be a big one though as the others were 44 & 48".

The FB ad said "less multiplex" but I was handed this. Any Ideas? Stamped T7432. For the record, this group of enablers is a bad influence on me and I want to thank you! Thanks Dan for posting or this unit would have slipped outside my normal mileage parameters.

The console is still in the box truck. It was being stored and used in the sellers garage. I thought it looked like the dial lights were on in one of the photos. He offered to play it but I declined, thinking if he hasn't let the magic smoke out yet now would not be a good time. It's supposed to warm up this week so I thought i should let it do some baking. It was "trash picked" by the seller and he recognized it might have some value. I thanked him for saving it and then selling it to me. I'll start a resto thread after I get farther along with my Philco project. Thanks again for the posting and the encouragement.

I've attached pics to this reply, of the unit I was questioning above

If I'm reading this right you bought the Pilot.  If you did then congratulations on buying a quality unit for a whole lot less than it's worth. ;)  If that had been in my area it wouldn't have lasted a day.  It would have been mine unless somebody beat me to it.

I did! ;D I can say without a doubt it would not have happened, had you not posted it here for all to see. Thank you for doing that. I wonder if the reason it didn't sell was due to it being listed under "Antiques and Collectibles"? I need to start doing name searches instead of just looking at the electronics section. I've only been chasing consoles for a few months but they don't seem to attract a large audience in downstate IL.

It cost me 2 grants. The first went to the seller and the second will go to my wife. Kind of like the "player to be named later" in a trade. She gets her pick of the Philco or the Pilot. I hope she like the Philco better. I would have no problem moving the Pilot upstairs but the Philco is heavier and very top heavy. I'll need to get help for my 20 year old sons end of that unit.

It is filled with Model 500 amp and Pre/Tuner and it also has the multiplex unit.

Thank you again for posting this.

I'm glad to be of assistance.   :)  That Pilot should sound fantastic when restored.  If I can't have it I'm glad to see somebody here wind up with it.

Most of the time when I search Facebook I usually search record player, console stereo or Magnavox.  It usually covers a large area.  Good deals can be found but they're usually too far from me or is something that I don't really need.

Wow, that is some Pilot.  Totally different than the one I had.  Mine was a receiver based unit with the enclosed speaker boxes and a Garrard changer.  If memory serves the Pilot receiver was a 402.
